Paul Weller

Paul Weller is Professor of Inter-Religious Relations at the University of Derby in the UK. He has been working with Belieforama since the very first development of its religious diversity and anti-discrimination trainings in the mid 1990s and has been involved in various kinds of adult education training and facilitation for the past quarter of a century or so.

He is a founding member and Trustee of the Multi Faith Centre at the University of Derby. In the 1980s he worked for the Christian Churches in anti-racist and inter-faith work in the Greater Manchester area of England and also through the then British Council of Churches. In the late 1980s he was Resources Officer for the then relatively new but now very well established Inter Faith Network for the United Kingdom.

Until its abolition by the present Coalition Government in the UK, he was a member of the Advisory Panel on Faith advising the Minister of State, other ministers and Civil Servants in the UK Government's Department of Communities and Local Government. For the past three years he has been lead researcher in a project on "Religion and Belief, Discrimination and Equality in England and Wales: Theory, Policy and Practice, 2000-2010" (www.derby.ac.uk/religion-and-society). Together with Dr. Sariya Cheruvallil-Contractor, he conducted the evaluation research that led to the Policy Document "Learning from Experience, Leading to Engagement: For a Europe of Religion and Belief Diversity. A Policy Document for European Institutions and Civil Society Groups" that is informed by what participants and trainers have reported about the practice of the Belieforama trainings.

Paul is a parent of three young people and at present lives between Derby in the UK and Boppard-am-Rhine in Germany. He speaks English and a little German.
