Michaelson-How Gay Rights Teaches Us Torah

Rather than being a treatise about gay rights in the Torah, Michaelson flips conventional wisdom on its head and chooses to explore the differences between broad and narrow biblical interpretations. Michaelson maintains that the Torah is not necessarily the be all and end all of religious law, but instead that an individuals experience influences interpretation. In other words, understanding gay rights can enhance biblical interpretation not because the Bible rules one way or another on the subject, but instead, as Michaelson puts it, because, “it reminds us that the Bible is not a catechism; it doesn’t have clear answers to every moral question.”
